Month: July 2015

As you know, we’re dedicating the Wednesday of every other week to the products we covet, are plotting to get, or can’t stop thinking of. #WISHLISTWEDNESDAY is all about beauty — fragrance, hair, skin or make-up — that we really can’t wait to get our hands on. And since it’s a wish-list, geography, delivery charges, availability or expense don’t matter!

Find us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and share your lists with us, and the next #WISHLISTWEDNESDAY could be dedicated to you and your selection!

Basically, if Diddy can do under-eye masks, so can you. These ones by Thalgo are really hydrating and cooling without any stickiness or greasy residue. Put them in the fridge before you use them. The product is tailor-made for refreshing and smoothening your eye contour area, that too in 10 minutes. Slap them on before you have a big night out because you know that the first signs of fatigue are the eyes. With these eye patches on, tiredness doesn’t stand a chance. Sounds good? Get yours at My Envy Box, here!

Avocado, shea, jojoba and mango butters, peppermint, sage and rosemary — sound delicious? They’re all in this hair masque along with antioxidants that prevent colour-fading free radicals. Add to that, UVA and UVB sunscreens which is sunspeak we know all about thanks to this post here. If you’ve been looking for the right mask for colour treated hair, like I always am, the search ends here. Your parched hair will thank you.

serge lutens

At some point, we start craving a “grown-up” perfume, right? You know what I’m talking about? The cult of Byredo, Serge Lutens, Jo Malone and the like. These perfumes aren’t for girls — they’re for women. And the bottles, with their minimal type-face, and beautifully simple glass containers, say just that. Serge Lutens leads the charge, as far as I’m concerned. This particular parfum is all about the intensely floral bouquet of the evergreen rose. We have GOT to own it. The search continues.

Dragons have their Khaleesi, and us mere mortals have the Mother of all Serums, aka Dior’s One Essential serum. Each word of that excessively long name has been put for a reason and because Dior has the goodies to back their nomenclature up. Breaking it down, this serum detoxifies (removes toxins), energises the skin and amps up its luminosity, and re-charges skin cells. While you’ll start to see results in a week, one month is is when the jackpot really hits. This serum is for the long-haul so it requires a routine. Every day, people. We’re so ready for it!

We’re suckers for a skincare system, and this one gives like there’s no tomorrow. Start by exfoliating with the Arctic Berry Enzyme Exfoliant Experience on a cleansed face. Take your time and enjoy it — you’re giving your skin a massage! Leave the exfoliant on your face and apply the second product —Arctic Berry Advanced Peel Activator MA10 (that means containing 10% of multi-acids.) This peel activates your skin, making it clearer and far more smooth.  After about five minutes, wash it all off and apply the third product, the Arctic Berry Peptide Radiance Cream which is a powerful, yet soothing moisturiser. Sounds deliciously decadent? Get on board, and check it out on My Envy Box, here!

Welcome to my happy place, aka, in a vat of Salad Days “Egyptian Orange” cold pressed, raw and unpasteurised juice. We stumbled upon this company — Salad Days — while looking for healthy lunch options in Gurgaon. Within a week, we were on a subscription plan with them, which is the best decision we have ever made. But, while their healthy salads are a great option, what we’d like to focus on here, is, in our option, the real gem of the company — the juices.

Each glass bottle — great packaging, with tabs that say “treat yourself — is 330 millilitres. There’s carrot, Egyptian orange, pineapple, ginger, called Red: R01. Red: R02 has watermelon, chia seeds, mint and Thai basil which is crunchy, chunky and feels ridiculously healthy. Yellow: Y01 is a simple, yet delicious blend of pineapple and kafir lime. Crimson: C01 is a blend of Washington apple, carrot, beetroot and ginger, which personally, was difficult to get down but that’s also because of the beetroot — which isn’t a particular favourite of mine in its raw form. And then, there’s our favourite Orange: O01 — Egyptian Orange — which we’ve tried to drink slowly, to make it last more. 330 ml is just not enough with this one. It’s really that good. Each of these juices has a host of health benefits that range from better teeth, hair, skin, a boosted immune system etc. I personally tested them a month ago. You know that feeling when you’re just about the get a cold? I took one tablet of Vitamin C and ordered two bottles of the orange. It’s basically a strong hit of Vitamin C since the juice is raw and cold pressed. I can vouch for the fact that my system felt a hundred times better and I did keep the cold at bay (for a day or two, but that’s my fault. I should’ve kept up the Vitamin C.)

They also grow most of their vegetables which controls the quality you can really taste (you’ll find all the sweet basil, celery, parsley, rocket leaves, baby spinach, red radish, cilantro, mint, shallots and leeks all coming from their gardens.) The “they” we’re talking about are the two co-founders: Varun Madan and Kunal Gangwani. Fun fact: they were from two adjacent batches from XLRI Jamshedpur and became good friends while playing for the XLRI music band, Bodhi Tree.

Says Varun, “… It was felt learning from food endeavours in Europe and US that freshly sourced raw ingredients have a great taste of their own and qualify as awesome meal options. But here in India, we couldn’t identify that one name which comes to everyone’s mind when one thinks of eating healthy food. Lack of both demand and supply have been the most basic reasons for this void. While we embraced these challenges as opportunities, Salad Days was born to address the big white space of serving healthy, filling and tasty food in a quick format and at reasonable prices.”

We have a short interview with Varun right below talking about the juices, and their combinations. The next time you’re in Gurgaon, give them a shout and see what all the fuss is about!

my salad days 1

My Envy Box: Juice cleanses are all the range, so was there a conscious reason to bring raw, unpasteurised juices into peoples lives for regular health purposes as opposed to one monthly cleanse?

Varun Madan: Juice cleanses are the rage across the globe — Agreed. But we don’t want to make healthy eating a complex decision. As a fact, our juice blends are similar and better in quality than the ones featuring in various popular cleanse programs. But, clearly, we don’t want to position our juices as cleanse packages. We believe that instead of going for a week/month long, one-off juice cleanse, it’s better to include a juice or two in your daily diet. It’s a more sustainable lifestyle change and hence, in line with our mission at Salad Days. No promises of detoxification or weight loss, no selling of hope in a bottle … just pure goodness.

My Envy Box: What are the processes behind the fruit and vegetable pairings. For instance, the pineapple and kaffir lime or the Egyptian orange with carrot, pineapple and ginger.

Varun Madan: Our core offering is food and that’s where our primary focus resides. Everything else is secondary. At Salad Days, our mission is to contribute in making Indian mainstream diet healthier, which essentially means that we must provide with food that speaks for its goodness. Only then will it make its place in regular diet! Thus, for all our products, the underlying philosophy is to bring out the best in terms of health, quality, taste and filling factor. The philosophy is no different for our recent addition of fresh, raw and unpasteurized cold pressed juices with no sugar, no preservatives and no colours, etc. Basically, the juices are pure to the core. From the pairing perspective, the best juices are the ones which have a balanced concoction of both fruits and veggies, because only then do they ensure rewards with regards to nutrition, taste and energy needs. The so called juice cleanses are more inclined towards greens and vegetables to limit the sugar intake, but ideally, one needs good carbohydrates too. The fruits not only provide you with energy needs, but also make the juices more palatable and enjoyable. We believe that health, taste and fullness all can exist in tandem and we try to replicate this belief through everything in our menu.

My Envy Box: Talk us through the juices and give us some insights on their benefits?

Varun Madan: Cold pressed Juices are, in general, far more healthier than other fresh juices made using the omnipresent centrifugal food processors and blenders. In the latter process, fast spinning blades generate heat and oxidise the juice, thus degrading the vitamins and phytochemicals (which are the “healthy things” intended to be consumed in the juice) resulting in nutrient loss, and a less palatable end product. On the other hand, the pressed juice process, as the name suggests, “presses” the fruits and vegetables. This minimises oxidation of nutrients and live enzymes, resulting in the highest concentration of nutrients possible. We have introduced five cold pressed juices with an extremely simple and meaningful nomenclature. We believe that when there is a mix bag of ingredients, the easiest recall is by the colour of the juice. Also, scientifically, different colours are a direct cue of different nutrients. Backed with this reasoning, we have named our juices based on their colours. So we have G 01 (Green), R 01 (Red), Y 01 (Yellow), C 01 (Crimson) and O 01 (Orange). Collectively, these juices behold the benefits of detoxification, digestive aid, anti oxidation, immune support, weight loss, skin cell growth, circulation improvement, kidney cleansing, metabolism boosting, anti acne, strengthening of teeth and gums, anti inflammation, reduction of fat absorption and hydration. In the near future, we plan to introduce our 02 series for all the colours.

Visit Salad Days at or give them a call at +91 9643 800 901/02/03 to try out the juices (and salads!)

shadow woman

This celebrity child has some pretty awesome genes. We’re talking superstar genes here. This famous kid is now the new face of Chanel’s fall 2015 eyewear advertisements because … Karl Lagefeld. He’s done it again! Now, we seem to think that this new face deserves it, not just because they are the spawn of really, really well-known parents, but because “they” are stunning with a bone structure literally xeroxed from their gorgeous Mum. So, who is it? Find out this edition of beauty news after the jump! (more…)

I’ve actually been to Ananda for four days and I never wanted to come back. While indulging in their many therapies, I ended up using (and gushing) over the famed spa’s own range of products. This one, in particular, did wonders to my sensitive, heat-prone, combination skin. We’re buying it pronto. Trust us, and get yours at My Envy Box, here.

By Terry is one of those brands that we trust blindly. All the skincare and make-up included. This particular product combines the two — always a brilliant sign for us. It’s a hydrating, mattifying base which falls somewhere between a BB cream, a CC cream, foundation, lines filler, skin plumper — like a flash balm, of sorts — and primer. Sounds like a lot? It is. It actually does it all!

I’ve already got two Multiples by NARS; Siam which is a matte multiple and Portofino, which is from their original Multiple range. I truly can’t get over these. You can use them everywhere, both wet and dry, with your finger tips, with a brush or with a sponge. Keep one in your bag at all times. I can’t wait to get this version — Quantum — from the Christopher Kane collection. The colour is incredible, like an iridescent pink, magenta and violet hybrid, which leans pink or purple depending on your skin and undertones. We’ve talked about our love for this particular range of products on our very detailed Top 10 Lips & Cheek Stains post, which you should have a look at!

I’m creeping to my mid-30’s so I’m just going to put this out there: I’m obsessed with eye cream. I use it ALL. THE. TIME.  Why this one? It’s vegan and ticks off all the ingredients I love: wild plum, shea butter, grape oil, green tea, horse chestnut and the like. It works, but it’s also light enough to slather on through the day because it absorbs so easily. Go get yours at My Envy Box, here!

beach wavers

So, Sarah Potempa is this celebrity hair stylist who works with the likes of Julianne Moore, the Olsen twins, Michelle Williams and Lea Michele. She really knows her hair and that’s why we trust her hair styling tools range. What the Beachwaver essentially is, is a professional rotating curling iron for women (or man) with shoulder length or longer hair who want glamorous curls or beachy waves. It has a ceramic rod, digital temperature clock and an extra-long barrel and a right and left button that you press according to which side of your head you’re working on. It makes it super easy to do your own hair and that’s why we want it.

Supernatural skin and shimmering eyes: that’s the best way we can describe our favourite looks from Paris Couture Week, which just wrapped up. Let’s get straight into what we loved from who we loved!

Alberta Feretti

The beautiful, soft romanticism of this collection — limited-edition spring 2016 evening — was echoed in the beauty of the models. Laurent Philippon, global artistic director for Bumble and Bumble devised the look. For the make-up, we find gorgeous dewey skin being the key factor here, highlighted by a hint of soft, gold shimmer on the eyelids. To try and achieve the look at home, we’d suggest mixing your foundation with your moisturiser. One part of each, so you get coverage that isn’t thick and skin that looks hydrated.

Use Natio Flawless Foundation with SPF 15, optimised with Natio Pure Mineral Redness Corrector to even out the skin. Mix the foundation with Eminence Organics Bright Skin Moisturizer SPF 30 for best results. A tiny bit of YSL Full Metal Eye Shadow in Dewy Gold will pull it all together.

Models at Dior were also given feminine, pretty treatment by Peter Philips. Soft colours were keys here, with the skin being the focus. While this looks natural, there seems to be more matte product on, in terms of foundation, than at Alberta Ferretti’s show (above.) Flawless blending is a must for both looks! Natural looking waves, done by Guido Palau, were completely in sync — best achieved by a salt spray! Mascara hasn’t been used here, but the lips have a natural rose-tinted gloss patted on.

Use Natio Invisible Blend Foundation to provide an even finish to your skin. Pat Eminence Organics Organic Kiss Lip Gloss Strawberry on to your lips. Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray is the best for natural, beachy hair.

Soft pops of colour that just work together — that was the beauty message at Schiaparelli. At the same time, the concealing and foundation use is perfect so that the colours settle on easily. Pop on some peachy-coral shades on your lips and cheeks and wash some pale blue cream eye shadow on to the eyes for easy blending.

Pat on Natio Lip Colour in Paradise onto your lips, with your finger, like a stain and use whatever is left on your fingertip to blend on to your cheeks. Shiseido Shimmering Eye Color in Ice will be a great complement.

Our favourite make-up artist, Pat McGrath did the make-up for Atelier Versace, the focus of which was green metallic eye make-up, diffused with gold shadow, all around the eyes. For an easier version, just use lashings of cream eyeshadow. Apply the product just under your lash line, like a kajal, as well, with a flat brush and smoke it up with a smudger. (P.S Guido Palau was responsible for the sexy, loose, tonged waves.)

Blend Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Sunlight Gold, with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Sparkle in Midnight Forest.

elie saab

Make-up artist Tom Pecheux used honey and gold to bring out the eyes, at Elie Saab. He also stated, “We created a little wing that’s going to give a bit of a rock ‘n’ roll, cool feeling. It will give some edge to the makeup.” To replicate the look at home, bring out your trusty gold cream eye shadows. Different shades work too — blend them to create your own custom colour! A brown eye pencil to create the winged, smoky cat eye is essential.

Use lots of Dior to re-create this look. Diorshow Fusion Mono — Summer 2015 Limited Edition in Zenith is a great soft gold, as is the regular Fusion Mono in Mirror. Blend it with Diorshow Fusion Mono in Meteore (it’s a darker honey.) Diorshow Khol in Smoky Brown should give you the necessary winged out smoke.

So, we know we’re supposed to put on SPF whenever we go out into the sun. There are also a whole bunch of terms — UVA, UVB — which we all know about, again, because we hear about them all the time. But do we, really? Let’s just, for clarity’s sake, break down these words, once and for all, so we fully understand what we’re using and what we’re protecting ourselves from.

SPF: Yes, it means “sun protection factor” but most SPF products don’t protect us from UVA rays. A lot of them only help form a barrier against UVB rays. Basically, SPF stands for and represents the theoretical amount of time you can stay in the sun without getting sunburned. For example, an SPF of 15 would allow you to stay in the sun 15 times longer than you could without protection. It’s a simple equation. Say, you start feeling sunburnt in 20 minutes, without applying any form of sun block or sun protection. If you apply a product with an SPF of 15, it will multiply the time you can stay out in the sun by a factor of 15. Doing the math means, 300 minutes of sun time for you. At the same time, remember that environmental factors do affect the wear of the product, so don’t push it and start re-applying before your noted time, just to be safe.

UVA: This means long-wave ultraviolet A, in terms of sunlight. These rays really penetrate the skin all the way down to the dermis. UVA ages us, and causes those nasty signs of aging like wrinkles and sun spots. UVA rays are also dangerous because they can penetrate through windows. So, you need to find products that provide protection against these rays.

UVB: UVB means short-wave ultraviolet B rays and they are what burn us because they reach the upper layers of the skin. The intensity of UVB rays vary by season, location and time of day, but generally, 10AM to 4PM are considered high intensity UVB time. Most SPF products help protect us against this type of ray.

UVC: This means Ultraviolet C which are the strongest and deadliest of solar rays. Luckily, the ozone layer stops these from reaching the Earth.

Broad Spectrum: This means a product that provides proportional protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Here are our top 8 products that offer a combination of all these necessary sun protection factors so you can frolic outdoors without getting skin damage!

Exciting news for fragrance fans! Miuccia Prada launched Miu Miu in 1993, as the younger, more playful and quirky sister to her main brand, Prada. A little more than two decades later and they’ve finally announced their first ever perfume, which will officially release in September of this year, exclusively at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman’s. Online shopping, HELLO. The face of the new fragrance is the gorgeous French-English actress Stacy Martin, and the photographer of the advertising campaign is Steven Meisel.

Apparently, this newbie focuses on lily of the valley supported by notes of jasmine, rose and green notes, as well as a special ingredient called akigalawood, which imbues the scents of patchouli, pepper and oud. The fragrance will be available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum accompanied with perfumed body care products (shower gel, body lotion, body cream) and we can’t wait to get our hands on that amazing, almost retro looking turquoise flacon!

So, if we’re going to talk about this seriously and scientifically, Carlsberg has stated facts about its lager, which is full of barley, hops and yeast that are essentially bursting with vitamin B and silicium. Both are said to be great for the skin and hair. You could also basically read this and compute: beer is good for you. You know we did!

Kidding aside, in one of the best bits of news we’ve heard all month, Carlsberg has put forth a limited edition range of male grooming products — shampoo, conditioner and body lotion — and each product in this Beer Beauty series contains 0.5 litres of real Carlsberg beer. We have GOT to get our hands on this!

The one aspect that unites all skin types — whether combination, oily or dry — is the need for hydration. And for people who have oily T-zones, hydration doesn’t automatically translate into more oil. It just means plumper skin that’s healthier, more resilient and less prone to wrinkles. Skin that’s not hydrated means it loses its elasticity, which makes it less supple. We definitely don’t want that. So, why not start a regime today, at the start of the week, to focus on this very important facet of skincare? Make a commitment to putting on a hydrating face mask every week so your skin stays on top form. Whatever age you are, this will extremely super beneficial for you. Let’s break down the top 5 face masks we have in store for you, to get you started. We have already!

Eminence Organics: Chocolate Mousse Hydration Masque eminence

A particularly delicious sounding mask, this product is bursting forth with deeply nourishing and hydrating cocoa (it’s also a super antioxidant). Add macadamia, almond and jojoba oils to the mix and you’ve got yourself an all-star. Emulsify a small amount of the mask with lukewarm water and leave it on for 10 minutes and you’re set. You can get this mask on MY ENVY BOX here.

Thalgo: Moisture Quenching Mask

The name says it all, doesn’t it? This is called a “skin bath” because it not only nourishes and hydrates (it’s got a lot of barley milk in it, as well as their patent Seve Marine ingredient), but also visibly brightens the face. You simply have to apply it, as an even layer, to your thoroughly cleansed face and neck, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, and then blot away excess with a tissue, as opposed to washing it off. You can get this mask on MY ENVY BOX here.

Natio: Ageless Hydrating Mask

Rosehip and sesame oil, papaya and aloe are what truly pack a punch in this goodie from Natio. It’s a deep conditioning face mask that can be employed as a quick skin pick-me-up, just by applying it for 10 minutes weekly, or bi-weekly, whatever your needs may be. You can get this mask on MY ENVY BOX here.

H2O Plus: Hydrating Marine Moisture Mask H20

This intense moisture mask is infused with marine botanicals, including red marine algae, oxygen-rich sea plankton, and wakame, sea fennel and sea lettuce which together combine to saturate the skin with nutrients. Apply a generous amount, weekly, to your face and neck for 10 minutes at a go, and watch yourself glow. You can get this mask on MY ENVY BOX here.

Maskeraide: Detox Hydrating Tissue Face Mask MaskerAide

We thought we’d also give you a sheet mask option — we LOVE sheet masks. This one from Maskeraide packs quite a punch. It’s formulated with natural geranium oil, seaweed, green tea leaf, Chinese plum, strawberry and lemon extracts … as well as Argan oil and honey. Sounds good? It is! Leave it on for 20 minutes and since it’s so full of natural ingredients, you can use it daily. You can get this mask on MY ENVY BOX here.

There’s no panic like red lipstick panic, in the make-up world. If it smears, gets on your teeth, or pools on your lips, it can look pretty ghastly. Some people shy away from long-lasting versions because they tend to dry out lips. But if you’re okay with that, then you should be heading straight to our summer lipstick post. But, say you have a red lipstick that is creamy and hence, not particularly long-wear: what do you do? A lot of creamy lipsticks tend to slide right off your lips, so eating or drinking becomes a nerve-wracking affair! So let’s just make the theatre of red lipstick what it should be — heaps of fun without the stage fright. Follow these steps, and breathe easy.

HOW TO … Make your red lipstick stay put

Step 1: Exfoliate your lips. You need a clean, even surface for your lipstick to settle in to.

Step 2: Moisturise! This prevents dryness which otherwise causes those cracks and crevices which your lipstick pools in.

Step 3: Use a primer. It holds the lipstick and intensifies the colour. (Combine steps 1 and 2 with MAC Prep + Prime.)

Step 4: Use a matching red lip liner to carefully line your lips AND fill in your lips too.  It acts like an extra base.

Step 5: Apply your red lipstick with a lip brush for more precision.

Step 6: Take a sheet of tissue paper and blot your lips.

Step 7: Re-apply your lipstick straight from the tube and blot your lips with tissue again. This packs in colour.

Step 8: Apply a third coat but this time, put a tissue sheet on top of your lips and dust some micro finishing powder on top. The powder sieves itself through the paper and settles on your lips like a sealing cover.

Step 9: Should you still feel uneasy about your lipsticks staying power, apply a seal-in top coat. Aqua Seal, for instance.

Step 10: Finish off by running concealer on your lip outline, with a brush, to clean up mistakes and to prevent your gorgeous red lips from bleeding colour. And, voila … have fun!

Natura Bisse

I had a facial in Delhi (where will be spilled in a later post) where all the products from this particular Natura Bisse sub-line were used. OH. MY. GOD. Genius. I didn’t have to use concealer for a long time! None of the benefits this serum preaches are hyperbole. You’ll really look years younger and the hydration is long-lasting and deep.

Tom Ford

I read about celebrity make-up artist for L’Oreal, Namrata Soni (she works on Sonam Kapoor’s face) talk about this product. I’ve always liked her work and I’ve always wanted something from Tom Ford’s new line. It’s expensive, but I tried some from a tester on recent travels and it’s like a skin-care and make-up hybrid. It works beautifully as an illuminator and as a base, provides a really even, clean base which keeps make-up locked on. And how gorgeous is the packaging? P.S: I’d use as a luminiser all the time!

fresh sugar

Another range I’d buy every single product of (there are 13, I think?) because I’m a sucker for packaging and of tinted lip balm. This brand pops up regularly on various “best” lists and I must own it. Armed with an SPF 15, each shade delivers the softest swipe of colour.

This a foundation — a Dior foundation, no less — you spray on. Flippin’ airbrushing right at home. I’M SOLD.

Girls in the know, know that Rodin Face Oil is the stuff models sing praises of. Girls who know even more, know that their perfume is the more luxe secret. It basically brings out the best of jasmine and neroli — two lush scents that combine like a dream. A must have!
