Although taking all precautionary measures before the festival is all-good, there are certain colors that manage to penetrate their way even through all that oil and petroleum jelly. Resort to these 5 tricks to rid your skin of all those dogged tints.

  1. Curd & Gram Flour

Make a paste of cold curd and some gram flour and apply on your face and body. Leave on for about 2 minutes and wash off using cold water. Refrain from using warm water, as it isn’t half as effective.

  1. Egg

Whip up a mixture of egg and apply as a mask on your hair and scalp before hitting the shower. Leave on for about 30 minutes (and bury your nose in some attar) and wash off with regular shampoo. This regime helps washing away the ink and blues from your hair and scalp without sucking out all the natural oil.eggs

  1. Honey & Tomato

Mix together honey, mashed tomato (or papaya) to make a scrub. This au naturale scrub is e great way of ridding your body of all the harsh colors.

  1. Multani Mitti

Not only is a pack made of multani mitti and rosewater excellent for your skin, it also helps cleansing away the “vibrant marks” from your face. Apply a layer over your face and neck and wash off with cold water after 10-15 minutes.multani mitti

  1. Banana, Milk & Honey

Mash together some banana and honey and mix it with cold milk to make a semi-liquid paste. Apply evenly over your scalp and hair and allow it to dry. Wash off with cold water and shampoo.

Remember to moisturize your skin well after this “mission” and refrain from washing your face repeatedly as it will make it rough and dry.

Bring it on!

5 Tricks To Protect Your Body & Hair From Holi

With water pistols and balloons in tow, Holi is round the corner. The vibrant festival is as much notorious fun as it is brutal for the skin. Here are 5 tips to protect your skin against the wrath of the pinks and blues and greens.

  1. Moisturizer

Before stepping out into the “field”, apply generous amounts of moisturizer or body oil. Be sure of covering your face, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and any exposed area of your body, especially the insides of your ears and navel, and the area between fingers and toes. The grease keeps the harsh colors from settling into your skin, hence making it easier to wash off.

  1. Sunscreen

Apart from making sure that you wear clothes with maximum coverage – what, you want to be pink and tanned? – smear on a generous amount of sunscreen. The greasiness of the lotion acts as a protective layer against the colors as well.

  1. Hair Oil

Coat your hair and scalp with generous amounts – that is, at least 2 layers – of hair oil. The oil helps in getting the color off easily and protect it from the chemical present in the colors. Make you tie up your hair to avoid damage amidst all the madness.

  1. Nail Polish

This is the easiest way of steering clear of multi color nails after Holi. Apply a coat of clear or colored nail paint on your nails. After the festival you can simply remove it using a nail polish remover and it’ll be like you never played Holi!

  1. Lip Balm

Save your lips too! Dab on a layer of lip balm or petroleum jelly over your lips to keep them hydrated and protected. Using Vaseline under your nails is also a good idea. Dry skin causes the pores to open wide; keeping them shaded and moisturized will help you not look like a candy floss post holi.

Happy Holi beauties! Check out the Holi Beauty Box here to keep up with the vibrant festive spirit.
