5 Tricks To Protect Your Body & Hair From Holi

With water pistols and balloons in tow, Holi is round the corner. The vibrant festival is as much notorious fun as it is brutal for the skin. Here are 5 tips to protect your skin against the wrath of the pinks and blues and greens.

  1. Moisturizer

Before stepping out into the “field”, apply generous amounts of moisturizer or body oil. Be sure of covering your face, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and any exposed area of your body, especially the insides of your ears and navel, and the area between fingers and toes. The grease keeps the harsh colors from settling into your skin, hence making it easier to wash off.

  1. Sunscreen

Apart from making sure that you wear clothes with maximum coverage – what, you want to be pink and tanned? – smear on a generous amount of sunscreen. The greasiness of the lotion acts as a protective layer against the colors as well.

  1. Hair Oil

Coat your hair and scalp with generous amounts – that is, at least 2 layers – of hair oil. The oil helps in getting the color off easily and protect it from the chemical present in the colors. Make you tie up your hair to avoid damage amidst all the madness.

  1. Nail Polish

This is the easiest way of steering clear of multi color nails after Holi. Apply a coat of clear or colored nail paint on your nails. After the festival you can simply remove it using a nail polish remover and it’ll be like you never played Holi!

  1. Lip Balm

Save your lips too! Dab on a layer of lip balm or petroleum jelly over your lips to keep them hydrated and protected. Using Vaseline under your nails is also a good idea. Dry skin causes the pores to open wide; keeping them shaded and moisturized will help you not look like a candy floss post holi.
