The best part about seasons is the inevitable wardrobe switch from fuzzy woolens to airy cottons. And it ain’t just the clothes. Anything that can – and must – be stylish goes through a rigorous trend mapping. Everything right from your toenails to your tresses. Speaking of which, let’s have a look at the hottest summer hair trends for 2016, shall we?
Bob with Layers & Bangs
Last year was the year of the sharp and asymmetric bob. But as you walk into the new year and your roots grow out that asymmetric perfection, move towards this tussled and carefree bob with long layers and bangs.
Sleek & Pointy
If your mantra for the season is “slick hair don’t care”, then you go girl and this look with the poker straight hair styled with some razor sharp layers will compliment your mantra perfectly. Go for a middle-parting and you’re golden!
Textured Cut with Bangs
Lassies with medium to long tresses, this one’s your calling. Ask you stylist to give you a layered cut with some thorough careless texture. Turn up the sass by coupling the layered locks with some side swept bangs.
A cute mop of lightly textured hair reaching just about your jawline with brawled bangs spells out S-U-M-M-E-R. Dye it for some added panache. Shades of maroon or a natural redhead shade should do the trick just right!
If you want to let your hair cut be and still be in vogue, dive right into some icy platinum hair color. Spotted on A-list celebs and fashionistas, the colour might be a task to pull off but is totally worth the risk!
Go ahead, book you salon appointment!
Summer. The word brings so many good feelings to you – tank tops, flip flops, sundresses, crop tops, et al. But when it comes to pulling off some make up, the same word ignites nightmarish thoughts – bleeding liners, dehydrated lips, patchy foundation. *Shudders* So unless you’re planning to move to the Tundra region, stick to these quick make up tips this summer.
Summer means a lot of sweat and more oil produced by your skin. To reduce this, indulge in a good clay mask therapy once in a week. Find some great clay masks here.
Well. Duh-uh, if your skin is going to step up the sweat and oil production, the best option is to turn to waterproof. Water-resistant mascaras also do the job just fine; it’s advisable to do a quick shower test though.
Another way to tackle summer is not by beating the heat but taking it in your stride. Embrace the sunny days with vibrant colors. Here’s how you can work some pop into your make-up.
On the other hand, if you’re not one for the fuchsias, blues and all that brightness on yourself, going au naturale too is a great way to tackle the season. Highlight the high points of your face with a bit of bronzer for some added glow in the Sun. Here are some products for going (almost) nude.
Ditch the creamy and heavy formulas and opt for lighter or sheer versions of the same. Not only do these feel lighter, but they also look great. For example, pick a nude or “invisible” lip-liner; and stick to lip stain or lip tint instead of a gloss or lipstick.
Now go beat the heat, pretties!
I know what you must be thinking. “Why must I go through the DIY trouble when there is already a readymade paste for this in the market?” Well, the answer is that these tips and tricks don’t require you to spend thousand of bucks to perfect your smile. And most of these ingredients might just be sitting around in your house. So, why not?
Now, lets turn that ecru to a dazzling white, shall we?
Coconut oil ain’t just your knight in shining armor when it comes to removing make-up, moisturizing skin and stepping up your hair game. Turns out the it is also a great teeth whitener. Just swish around a spoonful in your mouth for 10-15 minutes. And if that’s a bit too much, simply dab it onto a cloth and wipe your teeth with it. Alternatively, you could even put a few drops on your brush before cleaning your teeth.
Apple Cider Vinegar
This one’s for the caffeine and nicotine addicts. Of course, owing to its acidic nature, the vinegar can erode your teeth’s enamel but a few drops regularly can work wonders. Simply brush your teeth with a smidgen of apple cider vinegar before cleaning it out with regular toothpaste.
Lemon Juice & Baking Soda
Like mentioned earlier, kitchen basics. The Sodium Bicarbonates and lemon paste scrub off all surface stains and bleach your teeth to a few shades lighter. If the idea of rubbing lemon on your tooth gives you the shivers then you can simple mix the baking soda with water or your toothpaste and brush your teeth.
Baking Soda, Salt & Strawberry
This paste is as delicious as it is effective. Make a pulpy mix of mashed strawberries and add a pinch of sea salt and baking soda to it. Apply the paste on your (absolutely dry, use a paper towel if you must) teeth and let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing. While the salt and baking soda scrub away dirt, the berries are rich in Vitamin C, therefore breaking down the yellow plaque covering your pearly whites.
Orange or Lemon Peels
Again an excellent source of Vitamin C, orange and lemon peels ward off the murky layer of plaque. But since these are also high in acid content, they can deplete your tooth’s enamel so make sure you rinse off with part water and part hydrogen peroxide after rubbing the peels on your teeth.
In addition to these tricks, you should also refrain from eating dark foods like blueberries, soy sauce, et al. Instead binge on fibrous options like celery, carrots, apples and the likes.
It’s Wednesday all you lovely people, and this week’s #WISHLISTWEDNESDAY is all about your pretty feet! Because let’s face it, summers are just not sneaker-sock friendly at most time. So like it or not you have to pull out those strappy sandals, which demand pretty and almost squeaky-clean feet. Let’s take it from the top toe. This magical electronic nail care regime takes care of your toes to give it a flawless finish. It comes complete with a 3-step file, buff and shine mechanism to give you a salon-like pedicure at home.
The Body Shop’s Peppermint Smoothing Pumice Foot Scrub is made with wait-for-it volcanic rock for an explosive treatment. Regular application of the scrub scrapes away any and every trace of dirt and calluses, leaving you with baby-pink feet!

Now flip flop away!
Unless you are Nicki Minaj or someone with the confidence like Lady Gaga, the mere though of a bright pink lip or turquoise eye lids generate an image in your mind that looks like this:
While this is a great look to pull off at a spectrum-themed party, it’s not your everyday look. But if we can work with shimmer and shine can pop be far behind? Here are 5 techniques to add a dash of pop into your makeup palette and not look like a rainbow.
The safest bet when it comes to turning up the saturation is bright lips. And the safest of safe bets is a tomato red lip. It’s a blend of crimson and orange, so if you can’t find the right bright, just do some mixing to come up with your own tomatina shade according to your skin tone.
Caking your eyelids with a bright tiny is a trend right out of the 80s so let’s crank up the classy and turn down the retro. Opt for a vibrant shade like pop pink, lilac, lemon yellow and the likes, and highlight either the inner or outer corner of your eyes. This way your face gets just the right amount of pop sans the Cyndi Lauper effect.

Not too sure about an electric, pop or hot anything on you face? Simply turn down the quantity. For starters, begin with a colored liner and gradually experiment with brighter shades and, wing lengths, thickness, et al. It’s a good idea to pair your colored liner with a slightly tinted (contrasting or a different shade of the same color) eye shadow.
This one’s a great trick to brighten up your face with just a few brush strokes. Let the rest of your make up be as f, just swap your blush for a shade that is more on the peach or rose side. Pink cheeks not only make one look fresher but are also an excellent way of highlighting the cheekbones.
If all else fails for some reason, this one trick will be your knight in shining armor. Just pick up a mascara tint that is far far away from black. Like an electric blue or violet and dab it onto your lower and upper lashes. Skip the liner and go for bold brows for max effect.

Before you give this read a pass, let me tell you that I am not enlisting this season’s hottest lipstick shades. This list is in fact a compilation of the craziest R&Ds in the lip care and make up arena. From color-changing sticks to annoyingly perfect lip tattoos, here are 5 lip products that are anything but ordinary.
The sticks are available in a bunch of regular and some not-so-regular shades. Here’s the catch though, once you wear the lipstick, it changes color. Now, I don’t mean like a traffic signal but more like different shades pink, russet, maroon, et al, depending on your “body chemistry”. Also, the stubborn 12-hour formula enriched with Aloe and vitamin E is not going to fade whether you eat, drink or scoff down an entire human.
The 100% vegan and cruelty free make up cake by OCC can be used as an eye shadow, blush and lip stain. Enriched with emollients and humectants including aloe leaf extract, cocoa extract, and vitamin E, the smooth and super velvety texture coupled with gorgeous shades like golden, silver and bronze give a perfect matte metallic finish.
A Korean trend (of course), the peel-off lip colours are brilliant, actually. The three-step apply, peel and pout process is slightly time consuming but the results are mind blowing! And though this one might not be advisable for the impatient but if you can live through the tad lengthy application process, it’s worth the lip exfoliation.
Grey is subtle – it’s neither endearing like black nor overly tranquil like white. It’s gorgeous and it’s on a stick inside a MAC case! The offbeat yet gorgeous slate grey lipstick by MAC is not much, still everything. The sultry grey is bold and when it’s on that pout, it’s nothing short of unique and strong.
The Glizstick Collection by KA’OIR is the perfect reason to step out of your matte-fied comfort zone and indulge in some crazy glitter. The Glitzstick comes as a box of shimmery lip glitters that can be patted onto your favorite lip stain or you could go ahead and buy yourself an entire Glitzstick package wherein you get the base color, the glitz and a complimentary applicator stick. The shades range from a brilliant white to a bold black. If you’re one for a little less OTT, try their Sparkle from the Lip Pop collection. Less shimmer and shine but tantamount chic!
Your best selfie is just a pout away!
