Recently, celebrity YouTuber Lilly Singh a.k.a. Superwoman launched her liquid lipcolor shade called ‘Bawse’ in collaboration with Smashbox. And I won’t be lying if I say, “I’m a unicorn”. But here’s the thing, Lilly’s red looks smashing on her and on me it’s straight up odd. Why? Because I possess surrealistic blade-thin lips!
Enter, the lipstick guide. What I mean is that if a red doesn’t look good on you, a russet might. And if a russet doesn’t, beige might. Follow this guide to pick out the shade that goes best with your pout.
Most people with thin lips may already know this, but for those who don’t, dark colors shouldn’t really be your pick. Go for lighter and more natural shades of pink, beige and nudes. Start by lining your lip and then fill it in for a gorgeous and fuller look.

Read, perfection. Sorry ladies, but I am totally J. Simply because while you discuss the latest crimson shade by YSL and Louboutin, I am here retouching my clear gloss. But no hard feeling y’all! Oh and, as if it’s news but you chicas can carry off pretty much every color but leave the nudes for the rest. Pretty please?

Top Heavy Lips
You, woman, are the reason the ‘pout’ came into existence. You make the ‘duck face’ look effortless to the extent of seeming legit. And although, your pout is perfection, it’s okay to want to turn down the fullness at times. All you need is a darker and a slightly lighter shade of the same color. Fill in the fuller half with the darker shade and the lighter shade on your lower lip. Or you could just use a dark tone throughout and still look like a million bucks!
Suggested: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Kiss & Love Collection (Fuchsia); Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet (La Diva); MAC Mattene Lipstick
Bottom Heavy Lips
One word, ombré. You can totally rock that trick on your fuller half. Simply fill in your lips with the desired shade and dab some white make up pencil or nude eye shadow on to the center of your lower lip. Blend lightly for a magically balanced and gorgeous look. Or, as mentioned earlier, go for a single dark shade and rock it. Ombré is cooler though. Just saying.

Although totally kissable and unbelievably attractively, large lips can at time overshadow other facial features. Turn down your lip volume by wearing a soft matte color on the lip and highlight prominent features of your face – eyes, brows, and cheekbones, et al.
Suggested: MAC Lipstick Halsey; NARS Audacious Lipstick (Vanessa, Juliette, Brigitte)
Adorable as they are, small lips sometimes deserve due attention. Bestow them with some spotlight by picking up lip colors that have some shimmer, shine or gloss. These not only highlight your lips but also add a good amount of fullness.
Suggested: MAC Lipglass Viva Glam Ariana Grande; Dior Addict Milky Tint; Chanel Rouge Allure (Pimpante)
Important as it is to know your lip shape well and shades that suit you, it is also a good idea to practice some of these tricks before taking ‘em out for a spin.
